A MPU (mental health evaluation) is conducted after a court proceeding based on the criteria of determining the defendant's mental state at the time of the alleged offense, their competency to stand trial, and their potential need for mental health treatment or intervention. The evaluation is typically conducted by a licensed mental health professional, who assesses the defendant's mental health history, current mental status, and any potential impact of mental illness on their behavior.
